A NOTE FROM YOUR PTA PRESIDENT...
I want to thank every volunteer that gave his or her time and energy this year. You all contributed to a very successful school year. I think I started off the year about how it takes a village. Good luck to all the families moving on to High School. Thank you to all those who volunteered during your child’s middle school years. Remember Friday, August 21 is schedule pickup day in the gym. The PTA will have several tables set up showcasing all of the things we do around campus, and hopefully you’ll find a spot to join and help us make next year a great year too. Have a great summer!

~Jeanette Thorson, PTA President, Hall

HALL COMMUNITY SERVICE AND OUTREACH
Hall Community Service and Outreach had a very successful year. Over 100 students met and exceeded their service goals. Congratulations! We thank all students who participated in the program and look forward to next year.

The mission and guidelines for the 2009-2010 school year are as follows: Hall Community Outreach encourages all students to be involved with outreach activities that make a difference in their lives and the lives of others in the greater community. Integrating the Service Learning model, students connect with identified needs, create partnerships and build relationships with organizations that address community, national and worldwide concerns.

In order to better support Hall’s Community Outreach mission, the following guidelines for service credit will be applied to the 2009-2010 school year.

1. Students will only receive credit for service activities completed during the academic school year. Credit will no longer be given to summer hours.

2. Students will only receive credit for school service activities that fall outside of school hours. While activities such as student-student tutoring during SSI, assisting students with special needs and WEB activities are highly valued, they represent leadership opportunities.

3. Students will receive credit for service hosted by churches, temples, and mosques if the activity serves a community and/or people beyond the place of worship. Credit will not be given to activities that serve the place of worship. (i.e.: alter boys/girls, fundraisers that benefit members of the religious family, childcare for members of temple, church etc)

4. Students will not receive service credit for paid work, helping family members with household chores or taking care of siblings.

8th GRADE GRADUATION DANCE
A number of 8th graders have inquired about the attire for the graduation dance. The Graduation Committee would like to take this opportunity to respond formally. Thanks to the efforts of parents and staff members, the dance promises to be an elegant and memorable event. Consistent with this, we encourage you to dress up a bit. Girls might consider wearing dresses rather than shorts; boys might opt for collared shirts rather than t-shirts. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask Barb Redman or Joy Simmonds, 8th Grade Graduation Co-Chairs.
