COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Character Counts! At Hall Middle School   Each month our students complete lessons on a pillar of character from our Character Counts! program.  Each month’s pillar can be found in your student’s binder reminder, or on the Character Counts! page of the Counselor’s Corner.   April is Trustworthiness month at Hall Middle School.  Mr. Boone and I will be taking this opportunity to visit 5th grade classrooms to discuss some of the behaviors that we see during recess and lunch with during a popular game called Banana Tag.  Most of the conflict that we see revolves around honesty.  During these classroom visits we will be talking about trust, and how you develop a reputation as an honest person with your classmates and at home.  Most 5th graders state that having a friend they can trust is the most valuable quality when choosing new friends.   Our 6th – 8th grade students will be completing a short in-class writing assignment and discussing a time when they lost someone’s trust, and what they had to do to regain it.  They will be discussing “grudges” and how rebuilding trust with peers and adults can take some time to accomplish.   If you are interested in ways to support these lessons at home including parent tips, discussion topics, and Do’s and Don’ts of Trustworthy parenting, please visit the Character Counts! page of the Counselor’s Corner website.   Parent Education – Video Posting   If you missed the talk given by Brenda Bercun on, Understanding Middle School Boys, please see the home page of the Hall Website www.hall-school.org for a streaming video of the presentation.  The audio may be difficult to hear, which we will be adjusting this for the recording of her next presentation.  I have also posted my notes from her most recent presentation on the Parents and Caregivers page of the Counselor’s Corner.  As always, if you have any concerns about your middle school boy or girl, please contact me!
